Abstract

The problem of this study is the less amount of vocabulary that the students have. The aim of this study is
to see the positive outcome on the use of make a match technique to increase the students’ vocabulary at the 1st
semester students of English education department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong. The method used in
this research is quantitative method using the pre-experimental design. The number of participant are consists of
25 students that taken using total sampling technique. The instrument for this research was a multiple choices test
where the instrument were being tested after the implementation of make a match technique. The students’ data
were being analyzed using one of the statistical app, the mean for pre-test was 61 and the post-test was 67. The
hypothetical result that occurred was Ha (hypothesis alternative), the sig two tailed shows, 0.06 = <0.05. The
result of this study were the determined by the mean between pre-test and post-test. From the differences, it can
be concluded that there is a significant effectiveness on using the make a match technique to increase the students’
vocabulary on the 1st semester students of English education department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong.
