ABSTRACT
Olivia Estevani Dilago. English Learning Strategies Used By Students During
Online Learning at The Third Semester of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong
(Supervised by Yuliana A. dan Kris Uluelang).
This study aims to determine the learning strategies used by students of the
Department of English in learning speaking at Muhammadiyah University of
Sorong and to find out how students' achievement in English is based on their
strategies. There are three strategies used in this research, namely cognitive
strategy, metacognitive strategy, and resource management. The number of
samples was 19 students, the researcher used a questionnaire to collect data. In
collecting data, the researcher distributed questionnaires to students majoring in
English at Muhammadiyah University of Sorong through the WhatsApp group.
The questionnaire consists of 24 statements using a google form. The results of
the research based on the questionnaire analysis showed that in general students
who used metacognitive strategies were reflected in student responses such as
focusing on the lesson, paying attention and taking notes on the material presented
by the teacher, opening textbooks, opening dictionaries, and using other
languages. learning Media. Then the next strategy that is often used by students is
cognitive strategy. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that students
tend to manage notes and listen to voices and speak like native speakers. The third
strategy is a resource management strategy that students, in general, tend to use.
